Due to increasing requests for water proof backpacks we have developed the Muskeg Line. Kifaru utilizied a laminate fabric known as X-Pac that provides more waterproofness compared to the DWR treated 500d Cordura used in the rest of our line. The Muskeg packs are “do it all bags” that come in three different sizes. The bag has a fold over top lid, with waterproof vertical zip side access offset from the center of the bag. The exterior sides the pack have slender pockets to support a tripod or trekking poles. The front of the bag can accept two belt pouches or a spotting scope pocket, along with a covered sleeve pocket for flatter pieces of gear. All three bags come with a meat shelf and a water bladder sleeve. The 2800ci has a zippered pocket on the fold over lid while the 5000ci and 7000ci have a belt pouch matrix.

Coyote Brown X-Pac main body with Ranger Green 500d DWR cordura accents.
Care:
Dimension-Polyant fabrics are incredibly strong and tough but they do take special cleaning care.
– DO NOT machine wash or machine dry. This will severely affect the material properties, and may cause delamination.
– Do not use bleach, solvents or other harsh chemicals
– Use mild soap and water to wash
– Rub with a soft cloth or sponge
– Rinse with fresh water
– Hang to dry

I was torn between the 7 Muskeg and the 5 and Im glad I went with the 7 because Im not really into a bunch of pouches and stuff hanging off my pack and the Muskeg rolls down quite well and compresses really well with space not used with the various side and the two lid straps.
The front zip access is awesome.
I used it this past week on a 3 day scout gear test trip and I regret not investing in a quality bag before. Ive been using Cabelas Alaskan frame and before that an ALICE pack and this is by far superior in every way. I dont think I notice the weight as everyone discusses on reviews because Ive never used a low or mid weight pack and this is a night and day difference from pack systems not tailored to your measurements.
For the Muskeg 7 its darn near the size of a Sea Bag, almost or at least it feels like it and it really is a basic bag but thats what I was looking for. I just dont find myself going in and out of my pack that often on a hunt. If I do I decided to pack my essentials in the middle to make them easier to get to via a pull out bag.
As far as waterproofness, I got some rain on me but I was under canopy most of my trip and so I dont think I really got a true test of its water-proof-ness. I do think Im going to seam seal it just for sake of the fact that Im in Western Oregon and its wet during Spring Bear.
