Product details

Anyone who’s had a single cab truck can tell you that space runs out pretty quick, even if you can haul most anything in the back. That was the feedback we got on our original Stryker, so we made the Stryker XL.  We still didn’t seem to scratch the itch for more capacity on this platform for some.  So, we used our usual development system and listened to our customers.

The Hellbender adds an extra 350 in³ to internal storage and a large Bane style pocket on the outside for extra layers or wet gear.  The sling is now made from Xpac to help with cleaning up after a successful hunt.  The compression straps can move from the main bag to the back seam to keep your optics protected for the pack out.  The front panel of the bag has a zippered pocket with key hook inside and a belt pouch matrix above the Bane style stash pocket.  Each side has a water bottle pocket that works well with the front pocket compression strap for tripods. Inside the main bag is a Chamber pocket and sleeve for your water bladder. On either side of the top grab handle is a port for the hose.  Webbing tracks along the bottom will work with our Sherman and Grab-it pockets.  Each bag will come with all the straps necessary to help secure the load.

FIND YOUR FIT

The key to all-day comfort on the mountain starts with a properly fitted backpack. To find the right waist size and frame height for your pack, take your measurements and reference the sizing chart below.

WAIST BELT SIZES

Extra Small: 22" - 27"

Small: 28" - 34"

Medium: 35" - 39"

Large: 40" - 46"

FRAME SIZE RECOMMENDATIONS

22" FRAME
Recommended for people under 5'8". Ideal for military personnel, fitness rucking, compact loads, and whitetail hunters.

25" FRAME
Recommended for most people 5'8" and taller. Provides the most load-lifting capability, making it ideal for carrying heavy packs on extended backcountry hunts. The added height helps distribute weight efficiently, making it a top choice for western big game hunters hauling meat and gear over rugged terrain.

    Excellent toughness and versatility

I paired this bag with the ark frame and used it for day hunting whitetail, late muzzleloader elk, and a backcountry ski tour since purchasing it in November. I primarily bought Kifaru for packing heavy loads in steep terrain, and the Hellbender delivered. My brother and I packed out his cow elk in one trip-- not too shabby for a day pack! I've found myself finding excuses to take the Hellbender/Ark frame instead of other pack options because it performs so well whether the pack is almost empty or loaded with more than 100lb.

    Exccellent

    Almost perfect ,

    PROS

    - it is the right size for 3-4 days trek, hunt, hike

    - with the ARK frame you can take some compression bags and fit them between the frame and the backpack and make it suitable for long hiking, hunting or trekking trips ,

    - it sits on my back much more comfortable than other backpacks from well known brands,

    - It feels rugged and "tactical" as they say nowadays, easy to access the pockets and very

    - good feeling zippers.

    - Good weight for this kind of backpack

    CONS

    - one problem with it is lacking of internal organization pockets , the one that it has are too large to organize things like RF, oculars, multitools or bullets ... of course it is modular and you can attach pockets but still ... it can be more interior organized with a couple of small pockets or interior MOLLE (the worst interior organized tactical backpack i have is KUIU DeltaStorm 2200 and has one less interior pocket than Hellbender) .

    - No rain cover included

    * A specific problem is not the backpack but the price if you order it from EU I mean this backpack is like 381$ and ordering it with the ARK frame it will be 500 $ more ... of course it is worth 881$ because you can feel the quality in every single $ but when it arrived in EU I paid 80$ transportation and 290$ VAT and custom taxes so I paid a little under another Hellbender backpack ... so Total price for end customer in EU for Hellbender Backpack with ARK frame it will be around 1251 $ and that is a little high…

Thanks for the detailed feedback! We’re glad the Hellbender with ARK frame is serving you well on your hunts and treks. We appreciate your notes on organization and rain cover, and we’ll keep that in mind as we refine our designs. Thanks again for your support!

    Exactly what I wanted

This pack with the Ark frame is perfect for day hunts. The bane pocket it super quick and easy for extra layers and/or your tripod. I matched this up with a few different belt pouches as well as the sherman pocket for a little extra storage. The main reason I went with the Hellbender was for the quick and easy meat shelf and it's awesome.

    Great Hunting Pack

I ran this pack for elk hunting in CO. It performed flawlessly. I wore it everyday, for 2 weeks, crawling under and over dead fall, hiked in down pours... It came home dirty but not 1 scuff or tear in the fabric. The DWR treatment worked well with minimal dampness seeping in. My buddies non-kifaru pack got soaked and everything inside had to be dried out. I like the flexibility of their packs for strapping bows and other odd objects to haul.

Great bag but slides on frame

This bag is Kifaru tough. I bought it because of the Xpac material but I think this causes my issue. The bag does not sit on the frame securely but slides side to side slightly. This movement combined with the Pac material causes a bit of noise. Customer service recommended the compression kit which helped a little but bit did not solve my issue.
