The Kifaru Woobie is designed to replace the USGI poncho liner and are MUCH warmer. They are also great as a sleeping bag liner or ground cloth. Our Apex insulation is continuous filament – so strong that no quilting is needed. Plus, it has a better “feel” and draping capabilities – no quilting, so there are no cold spots. Coupled with our water resistant RhinoSkin Shell, you get immediate warmth and protection. Best yet, the Woobie is very compressible due to the state of the art materials used. Same great stuff we use in our sleeping bags.
Due to the fact that the human body produces a lot of perspiration (up to a quart even in one night!), you’ll want to air out your sleeping gear. If left unchecked, damp insulation will make them less efficient at trapping heat. When you get home, air out your gear again thoroughly, and hang or store it uncompressed in a Stow-Away.
Seasoned folks know that cold weather soft goods rarely get washed, as the process can reduce the effectiveness of the insulation. Never dry clean your Woobie or Slick Bag! We recommend hand washing with Nikwax Tech Wash or Woolite, then hang it over a clothes line.

I have had an issued woobie for 23 of my 26 years in the military thought I loved them after having to turn mine in to CIF I bought and after market which was awful, then a beat up issued on from a surplus store which was OK then one of my hunting buddies and former troopers was bragging about his new woobie when he told me what it cost I thought he was nuts now this is a guy that will literally give you the last of his water and do with out or give you his sleeping bag while he shives and stays awake through the night. UNTIL he lent it to me while I was doing some scouting. The night time temp dropped to 48 F and I was comfortable and it felt great. When I got back, I told him thanks for the nice gift after a second he responds its mine go get your own after busting out laughing at his vehemence I gave it back then did just that I bought my own I have had it for three years now including a trip that went off the rails. Weather reports said light snow showers +20 and +15 degree nights, day 2 of a 7 day hunt the passing snow showers turned into a white out blizzard temps plummeted to -17 add the windchill -31 my sleeping bag was only rated to 0 and my tent was only a single wall ultra light with no floor my bag, it did perform great to -5 then the chill started seeping in. Islid my woobie into my bag snuggled down and stayed nice and toasty warm through the worst of the storm with out any additional layers. Best replacement for my beloved military woobie I could get…Kifaru Intl4 months ago
