Urban Ruck

A rucksack style bag, the Urban Ruck keeps things simple and straight forward. Some of the features include two zippered pockets, a space behind the main compartment for one of our new chamber slider panels (available in two styles and colors) and a belt pouch matrix on the front. The 4 way stretch water bottle pockets on either side will fit Nalgene sized bottles without compromising interior space. The front zippered pocket has slots for keeping items separated. The lid pocket has some dimensionality to it as well as a key hook. The Back is padded with .25” closed cell foam. There are two spots to hang one of our chamber pockets (one included), in the main compartment and slot pocket in the back. There is also a tab at the top of the slot pocket for hanging a water bladder.

Chamber sliders (sold separately) – These panels will fit anywhere you can hang one of our chamber pockets. They are made from 1/16” HDPE and 500d Cordura. Each has webbing tracks on the back of each that will attach through the chamber hanger points, so the panel can be pulled out of the bag and stowed again. A webbing handle is sewn into the top of both panels. Both versions come in CB and Black.

The Organizer Chamber slider has a padded main compartment that will fit a 15 MacBook and similar sized items. It has a HDPE sheet sewn in that prevents the computer from hitting the floor when set down. On the front of the panel there are some pen slots up top and a stretch zippered pocket for chargers or loose items.

The Pals Chamber slider has 8 rows of Molle with 6 columns of standard 1.5” Pals. There are two stay guides on the back that house two aluminum stays that the customer can bend to their preference.

My main purpose for this pack initially was to use a just a ruck pack for certain training and events. A standard goruck plate wrapped in an extra shirt or towel fits great and doesn’t move much. Plenty of room to add extra gear as well. With the belt attached I easily carried 30+ lbs for 25.5 miles. I also found this pack to be very useful here in the east while putting on deer drives. Carries my basic gear, drinks, food, etc. while pushing through the thickest nastiest brush we have here in SW PA. The slim design along with the belt make this my favorite pack for this. Holds tight to your torso and doesn’t get caught up on branches and whatnot.

I’ve used this pack as a day pack bringing it to work, light day hiking, biking, family pack at the beach etc getting approximately 3-5 days of use a week ( for maybe a year) . I just used it successfully bow hunting deer during multiple stalks and it worked great carrying all my day gear and easily carrying my bow when I needed my hands. Bladder fits in sleeve easily. Pack exceeded my expectations and I could not be happier with a day pack. Great pack from a great company.

You can place this review in the ‘laptop carrier’ EDC category.’

My impressions after using the Urban Ruck with an Organizer Chamber slider and 500d Organizer Pocket
    for a week.

Meets high quality standards you expect from Kifaru.
Feels narrower than the Urban Zippy.
The flat/integrated/zippered organizer pocket on the back of the pack below the snow collar.
The new plastic/rubber zipper pulls. I like the look but will have to see how the hold up to EDC.
    Top grab handle
The new ‘stretchable’ fabric for the water bottle holders
The compressions straps that don’t cross the pack
The rigidity provided by the optional(?) Chamber slider
15 inch laptop in a padded case fits in the main compartment

The Organizer Chamber Slider. Neat idea, but the laptop compartment is too small. Way
too small for a HP Zbook 15 g3. A 13 inch Microsoft Surface Book 2 barely fit but I
won’t subject the Surface Book 2 to that again as it might start rubbing the finish.

I like the buckle attachement for the lid, but there is no way to lock the length of the
the adjustable (male) side of this connection and it keeps getting looser. Not a huge deal
but I’m trying to route the excess webbing behind the Organizer Pocket and I keep having
    to adjust this.

This is a minor complaint, but I wish they included the velcro wraps one-wraps for the side
compressions straps and the should straps. The size of my EDC doesn’t change much
so I would like to lock in the length of the straps and minimizer flapping.

The height of the water bottle pouches are short. I like the new material, but
I wish these were as tall as the water bottle pockets on the Zippy. The taller
pockets on the Zippy give a sense of security.

The snow collar is awkward for an EDC.

I ordered this pack shortly after they became available. I use it as my daily carry like a briefcase. My 15″ Dell fits in the chamber slider well, and I am able to carry everything else I need as well.

I ordered an Urban Ruck as soon as they were released and I am very happy with my “impulse” purchase. I added a 500D organizer and the chamber slider. My Dell 15.4″ XPS fits perfectly in the chamber slider laptop slot and comes out without the whole slider being pulled out as well. The layout and internal pockets are just right and I like having easy access stuff like my phone, cables and chargers placed in the organizer on the front. I leave the draw string opening loose so the main pack body is easy access but it is a nice feature for the next time I am going through airports and have to stuff extra gear in there and cinch it down.
