Handling Long Guns

The revolutionary GunBearer® is a simple, efficient way to securely carry your long gun, transferring the weight comfortably to your hips leaving both your hands free for climbing, bushwhacking, whatever. No more slings slipping off your shoulder, no more banged scopes. This is the safest, most comfortable way ever devised to carry your rifle and a backpack. With a flick of your wrist, your rifle or shotgun can be instantly shouldered for firing. Fully adjustable for any length rifle or shotgun, use it right or left handed, or remove it when you aren’t packing a long gun.

Hunting Gun Bearer

GunBearer (Kifaru packs only)
Originally invented for rambling in bear country, this is the safest, most comfortable way ever devised to carry your rifle and a backpack. Quicker than a shoulder sling, it’s fast enough for wing shooting. While many gun slings function well for MOUT and CQB work, ours excel in rough terrain such as mountains and desert, where you need your hands free for bushwhacking or handling other equipment while still having quick access to your rifle for instant firing. The weight of the firearm rests on your waistbelt to keep your upper body from fatiguing.

The Eberlestock Just One pack has a split tri-glide for the chest strap, which I used to mount the gun bearer. Worked great for mule deer last year, but opening morning elk this year, on the way to my spot, it failed, strap slipped out of the tri-glide, my barrel went into the dirt 6″ deep, had to pull it out like a tent stake, my hunt was over. The vertical straps of the Eberlestock pack are sewn-in, so I’m not sure how to implement a solid non-split tri-glide?

Just finished several mule deer hunts where I used this. It worked very well. Puts the gun in perfect location for quick access and the mounting system is versatile so you can set it up in several different configurations.

Looks fast to draw from, it’s faster. Very light weight and unobtrusive. Absolutely the best way to carry a rifle in the mountains. Keeps hands free for crawling steep terrain, for using trekking poles, and for glassing. Can be used with many types of long guns, actually every type I tried to mount on it.

I used the gun bearer this year on an elk hunt. It took the weight of my shoulders and freed up my hands. We walked through 18″ of snow for 14 miles and this was the first time I didn’t complain about carrying my rifle. Good product.

As I get older, carrying a gun up and down the mountain gets more difficult. Wasn’t sure if I would like this barrel forward concept, after one use I convinced this is the way to go. The weight is transferred to your belt, your hands are free and you can quickly deploy as needed.
